Feschuck demolishes Taber. (Well, someone had to.)

Too too funny.

I was amused to notice that Let Freedom Rain now has as his/her/its subtitle "Read any good Jane Taber lately?"  lol.

I noticed that and laughed.  :))

Does anyone read this columnist, Mireille Silcoff?  I rarely peruse the NP but I was reading something about politics, then clicked on a link to her writing.

I think she's a terrific columnist, must better than Heather Mallick who has inexplicably and sadly become a simulacre of her former writing self.

I guess Barbara Kay doesn't move away from here because she can nourish her hatred through daily immersion in Québec society. By the way, Denise Bombardier is another reactionary piece of shit, endlessly yammering on about the "decline" and longing for the bad old days when only a small minority had access to les collèges classiques and the unwashed working masses knew their place: http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2010/09/15/barbara-kay-euthanasia-support-proof-of-quebecs-collective-depression/

At least I can honestly say I don't wish her dead. I wish her a long and miserable life, and no right to put an end to it.

Just for starters, I really object to the use of the word euthanasia in this context. Goddess knows how people's feelings toward animal euthanasia have evolved over the years with progress in treatments and pain medications, but her mindset it definitely stuck in the past.

She draws deliberately misleading lines between "euthanasia", palliative care, and drug-induced comas. There's so much she doesn't understand, or even want to explore, but that doesn't stop her from pronouncing a moral judgement on an entire society, does it?   ::)

What's this about collective depression? I sure don't see how Quebec is so awful, so much more anxious or depressed than anywhere else.
Kay strikes me as one of those Anglos who looks down at Quebec society from above, who benefits from relatively peaceful and egalitarian (albeit imperfect) institutions, while looking down her nose at them.

As well, Kay selected a quote from a physician who is extremely conservative and who clearly discourages any discussion of assisted suicide from her patients.  ::)

Merci lagatta et brebis noire, I'll think about this and blog something later today.

I'm very sad that Bloc MP Francine Lalonde's cancer has returned and seems terminal now. :( I know Francine from her years working at the CSN (Confédération des syndicats nationaux) historically the most leftwing labour confederation here. She has been at the forefront of the whole "death with dignity" conversation.

Québec solidaire MP, and physician, Amir Khadir was the guest on the noon talk show about the Commission on Dying with Dignity at CBC MTL  this past week. Good show.

Mother who drowned children was not without social support.

Now, what is she getting at, exactly?  ::)

The vocabulary she uses to describe the circumstances of this tragedy are right out of the sob-sister lexicon. ::)

Interesting how sooner or later her screeds reveal her distinctive anti-feminist bias, which greatly pleases many of her misogynist fans.

I don't want to be ageist or anything, but Manji doesn't have the depth of Salutin, and won't be able to come up with the consistent quality he has consistently produced, every week.
I have found her to be completely uninteresting as a writer and thinker.

Oh jeez.
