So, if the sitting ends tomorrow, does that mean it dies on the table, or is this just a summer recess?

Remember, people, we need to elect the Liberals to keep the Conservatives from taking away a woman's right to choose!  Oh, wait, the Liberals have their own anti-choice wing.  [/end partisan rant/]

On some level, I hope for a real fight about this.  Abortion rights were something that women came out and fought for, and identified with feminism because of.  Young women (often) take too much for granted.  We can win this fight!  And we can mobilize and radicalize young women while we do it.  

All that said, Steckle is scum.

I just took a trip over to Suzie's blog and dropped a couple of paragraphs, the last one suggesting she use her energies for creating a world where every child is a wanted child instead of spewing vitriol.  Her comments are moderated, so it'll be interesting to see if she approves mine.

I did find this interesting tidbit, which I didn't recall.  

During the 20th century, the control of women's reproductive lives marked the most despicable regimes. Among the first things the Nazis did upon seizing power in 1933 was to outlaw abortion. Family planning centers were closed, access to contraception made increasingly difficult and abortion criminalized. By 1943 the Nazis made abortion a capital offense. Stalin, too, outlawed abortion in 1936, and both dictators clearly saw control of women's reproduction as a part of the larger apparatus of state control.

Reading this is helping me to make sense of this right-wingnuttian stuff.

Ta Debra, Now I wish I hadn't looked. Suzanne is using the same 'old' argument about partial births as if SHE CAN'T READ the stats that say only 0.4% of abortions occur after 20 weeks. These arguments go back and forth with no end in sight. They make me crazy. She asks r u okay with that? I am so tempted to say Yes I am, you moron. I need DeB's church lady's voice.

geez I've almost finished an abortion rant on my blog and it makes many of the points in that article. The nazi connection wasn't in it though.

Why can't *I* get to my blog?  I think the traffic to it is really high right now.  The 'Have you seen this ad' post has had something like 2300 viewings.  It is consistently the most-viewed post.  Overall, my traffic is up by well over 100%.
