I am groaning and moaning. My good puter specs are in the pocket of my dressing gown, my dressing gown is about 20 minutes into a 25 minute Perm. Press cycle in the washer, as I only JUST realized as I sat down at puter table.
I'm becoming like my mother, even though I said that would NEVER happen to me. I know this because I awoke from a power nap yest. with my chin on my chest and gob hanging out of the right side of my mouth. And even tho I was alone, I was completely humiliated. I don't know why, but the rest of the day was fekkin hilarious, laughing at myself over every little thing.....Looney is Me. I'm off to Canadian Tire, where I will be in a man-trance for about an hour. See ya......

I spent the day washing crud off stuff on top of the kitchen cabinets and elsewhere, stuff like vases, pitchers, Depression glassware etc. I also washed all the decorative plates and other wall stuff I have. It was really gross. I had to refill the sink with fresh soapy water half a dozen times.

I also culled a bunch of things for sale, and it's just the tip of the iceberg.

Now I need to rehang a bunch of things but I am terrible at that so I will have to wait for the BF to come into town for that.

On the upside, my niece's cousin has expressed an interest in buying my house sooner rather than later. I can avoid most of the agent's fee and all the hassle of open houses, staging and bullshit.

Although I have started with all that....

Antonia, I really hope that family deal goes through.

One of the weird things my mum learnt with "staging" - and this is many years back - is that potential buyers don't like books. I've even happened upon decorating mag articles - USian, of course, not British or French - about how to cover up books.

Even my champagne ... er, mousseux or bubbly ... flutes get washed out like that a hell of a lot more than they ever get used. I drink sparkling wine at home perhaps once or twice a year. Champagne never (last time I had it was slightly over a year ago when a friend turned 65, at another place nearby where the friends have a wee back garden and there were still some flowers).

I keep some proper wineglasses with feet for friends who insist on them, but many of us are getting happier with little Duralex tumblers.

I'm sad because I had to turn down a jobbine. Someone asking me to translate a document for $15 an hour (an absurd method of calculation, for one thing). I said so (in more polite language), and she asked me for an estimate. I quoted my usual non-profit rate, then said it would be x with a discount for her project. Even that extremely low rate was about 3 times more than she was prepared to pay.

Oh, it wasn't a very long document at all, but the whole affair is disheartening.

Today (other than house drudgery as boring as yours) I went out on my bicycle to feed a friend's cat and water her plants, do a bit of shopping at PA and other "commissions" including taking stuff to Le Chaînon charity shop. Sure, with snow I can walk there or take public ($$$) transport but it all takes SO much longer. And hurts all my joints, from shoulder to ankle.

Antonia, just think. It is GOOD to get rid of stuff we don't use, whether for resale or charity...

I'm defrosting and cleaning my wee fridge, and doing boring office tasks (filing, checking if I've failed to bill anything, that sort of thing). However I'm also happy because I actually received a cheque for my work at a conference last week! That was fast!

Perishables are outside on a ledge on the balcony - imagine the temp outside is about the same as in the non-freezer part of the fridge.

It is above freezing; there were a few light flurries earlier this morning but they didn't stick. This means I can still rund errands on my bicycle if need be. I had a good ride yesterday, felt good before the nasty winter hibernation.

I'm getting ready for a big winter storm that will smack us tonight - stocking up of some foods, and testing the generator, and throwing more wood in the basement. It's going to be a nasty 24 hours.

I'm listening to the Wainwright-McGarrigle clan doing the Pogue's "Fairytale for NY".

Boom Boom, you must listen to the podcast - brilliant concert:

I'll try to listen to it soon, getting ready to go out for a Carol service now. Just heard the Prime Minister's Christmas message on CBC - piece of crap in my opinion.

I was making the filling for a duck tourtière from some duck neck meat (sold at the Sino-Vietnamese shop, and simmered for soup) and onions. It seemed to make an awful lot - I'll have to make empanadas or something as well (to take to parties). Strangely, I can't find most of my heads of organic garlic - I must have put them somewhere odd. I need them tomorrow for my braised red cabbage, and of course, for my rapini sautéed with olive oil and garlic. I was asked to make extra veg "sides" (hate that meat-centric expression, even though I'm not a vegetarian) for a dinner on the 25th that will revolve around the usual turkey roast.

Tomorrow (the 24th) I'm going to a réveillon downstairs but don't have to take any food except perhaps a cheese. Friend hosting it is doing a fish-only supper, but he said the red wine I bought was fine (I guess we'll have it with the cheeses, after all, Christmas is about the birth of Cheeses)...

Red wine is from that part of the world - Lebanon, to be exact. Was highly recommended to me, and at the least, it is out of the ordinary.

So far I only have one other party, a small one, and that is fine. I really don't feel like stuffing myself with food and wine, and not just because of the calories. I want some quiet time too, and really want to paint. It is painful when one is a painter and can't seem to paint...

But most of all, I'm telling Renzo how much I love him. Mic, my friend K's grey tabby, had cancer and she had him put down yesterday. I visited her earlier today and we broke down crying.

Yes, I have a background in visual arts (studies, exhibits, sale and publication of illustrations). Among my many useless studies and degrees.

No, I haven't found my garlic yet and will only seriously look for it tomorrow morning. Annoyed as it is not just a matter of "buying more" - I simply can't find such a quality of garlic until next summer.

Did you ever find your garlic Lagatta  :))

I'm off to Can. Tire. I hate winter very very much, can't wait for the next January thaw, think we've had 2 now, another coming soon.....Monday plus 7 and rain  :applause
All books done, I now have 4 shelves For Free, will wait for warmer weather before putting sign up Come n get 'em. If it doesn't warm up soon, I'll give to Women's Shelter. Problem with that is I'm running out of boxes.
I just ordered ONLINE my very first time! Using a friend's VISA, easy as 1-2-3 Hee.

Yes, I found my remaining garlic, but since then, friends and I have eaten it all!

I bought some heads of new garlic from Argentina - there is no local left anywhere.

I hate winter too. We also have another thaw predicted for Monday, but as we have more snow (and especially ice) than you and generally colder temps despite a lot of thaws, it probably won't be enough to get rid of the frigging snow and ice. But the Canadian Tired closest to me is right at the other end of my block, so I can't complain about the trek. It is an unusually small one among current stores, but they keep it open as there are no stores closer into central-eastern Montréal. Lots of customers from Mile-End/Plateau Mont-Royal and Outremont as well as my neighbourhood.

Yes, some things are much cheaper on-line. I don't have a credit card either, annoying for that reason alone.

If i couldn't shop online, i could not have managed this move.

And yes, it,s true that many things are cheaper online. For example, I found outfits that i saw at boutique Mai $100 or more cheaper online.
