B.C.'s minimum wage goes up tomorrow to a whopping $10.25, wow eh, in one of the most expensive provinces in Canada. But Fraser Institute Asshole Niels Veldhuis predicts it will result in massive job losses This whiny wanker should be tarred/feathered and paraded downtown where all blathering Harper economists need to be. The very idea this repugnant pig   with his lucrative benefits/pay/pension has the f'ing nerve to say that makes me want to give him a quick vascetomy so he can't spread his spawn!!  :mad2

I can't find a proper biography of the jerk. His first name leads me to believe that he may well have been born in Northern-European-welfare-State-Netherlands and have unfairly profited from equal education and ridiculously low tuition fees.

Gord, I had two friends in Van who were both nurses and they could scarcely afford any wee house or condo. It is insane there.

Rents and mortgages are high in his ancestral homeland, but something like 40% of tenants in Amsterdam enjoy public housing or subsidised rents, and there is mortgage aid too.

Boom Boom brought up Occupy May Day (quite rightly) on the "Occupy" thread, but I thought it was time to re-open the Mayday! thread, started back in 2007 (an annual recurrence).

Here our May Day march is starting at Parc Molson, due east of where I live:

Montréal
Rassemblement à 18 h au parc Molson, à l'angle des rues d'Iberville et Beaubien, suivi d'une fête au théâtre Plaza à 20h, au 6505 rue St-Hubert

To get to that park, métro Beaubien, bus 18 east. One could also take the Iberville bus (think it is number 94) north from métro Frontenac or south from métro Iberville, but it is very infrequent, while the 18 is one of the "10 minutes or less" buses. It is also walkable from métro Iberville.

I have no idea of the route, as it takes no more than 30 minutes to walk from Molson Park to the Plaza Theatre, even slowly. The theatre (a popular show venue) is very close to Beaubien métro.

Here is a blog (in French) by the May Day coalition here:

The huge Common Front strike - General Strike of 1972 was 40 YEARS AGO!!!! (I feel very old).

I'm just translating one statement from this year's Premier mai callout:

NOUS
..voulons vivre dans un monde pacifique et écologique, où l’amélioration du transport collectif est bien plus importante que le renouvellement de la flotte d’avions furtifs.

WE
...want to live in a peaceful and ecological world, where improving public transport is far more important than renewing the flotilla of stealth planes.
