The YouTube thread that doesn't break my browser
« on: February 28, 2008, 09:58:19 AM »
Excessive youse of the youtube tag is hazardyous to your bryouwser's hyoulth.

Here is a URL to the big eponymous title number in the Bollywood blockbuster Om Shanti Om.  It is basically a who's who of Bollywood royalty.  Note how Bollywood vastly outdoes pretentious Hollywood on the shallowness front.

In true Bollywood style, it's too long.  And too catchy.

Mandos, are you telling people to stop embedding?

You can embed, just don't do it when there are 8 or 9 embeds above you on the same page.  I don't know about anyone else, but my browser crashes when there are too many simultaneous YouTube links.  And it's not because my 8 month old computer is too slow.  (It's probably a segmentation fault from a bug in Adobe Flash for Linux plus badly-written YouTube Flash-applet code.)

Weird...on this machine I'm running Flash 7 for Linux and haven't had much problem...youtube stuff is fortunately all flash 7.

Are you running one of the Flash 9 for Linux versions?

This is not youtube, but it is a very fascinating and touching short documentary about 'hoarders' - people who accumulate stuff in their home.

It is a very interesting progression through four people and their lives.  The first one I can relate with the most, and I can almost see how I might become like him were I living alone. It isn't much of a leap from one to the next.

There is a thriving Bhangra (sp?) scene around Vancouver & Surrey apparently, and there seem to be endless opportunities to see various groups sing and dance extremely catchy and lively tunes.

I can't watch your video Mandos - I'll be on a plane most of the afternoon, and I just can't have that beat cycling through my head.

Your video about hoarding really scared me, arborman. I've already thrown out a half-dozen mostly used up things on a brief visit to the little room. If the weather were better, I'd be setting a few boxes of things out at the curb right now.

It is a very interesting progression from the first fellow, whom is not much different from most of us (or me anyways, I cannot bear to let go of books, and I don't see the clutter after awhile) to the last guy, who is very obviously in a deeply unhealthy and probably dangerous situation.  And it isn't far from the first to to the last.

What can you see
on the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come
To carry you home

Mandos, are you sure that you don't want to be doing a PhD in Anglo-Saxon or Old Norse or something? I'm sure they would welcome your application. They're a little short on fresh new bodies lately.
