Best ... headlines ... ever
« on: April 13, 2008, 12:26:57 PM »
No, not "worthy Canadian initiative."

Two recent headlines from the Dili Weekly, a rather cool new publication out of Timor:

“Liquica OK aside from murders, rapes, witchcraft accusations”
... which rather puts things in perspective

"Catholics Celebrate Easter"
... stop the presses!

Any good headlines you've come across lately?
"You cursed brat. Look what you\'ve done. I\'m melting! Melting! Oh, what a world! What a world! Who would have thought a good little girl like you could destroy my beautiful wickedness?"

There are great satirical ones about Canada, o' course -- remember The Onion's "Perky Canada has own government, laws"?

And I just found this one from last year: "Canada seizes North Pole."

But I haven't seen any good rl ones lately, mainly because I don't read dead-tree versions of much.

It was years ago, and due to a typo, the headline promoting a church group's dinner event read "...traditional New England boiled sinner"...

Do people seriously not know what a New England boiled dinner is, or are these just the jokes, folks?

We do a "bouilli" round these parts that is not very different from that. I think we were just having fun with Hester Prynne and all.   especially the town hypocrites.

A friend who grew up near Philadelphia likes to prepare a local version of that dish, with German sausages too.

Never heard of a New England boiled dinner, no. I did once order "fillet of soul" at a restaurant, but none of it tops the misprinted King James Bible that commanded in its readers, on pain of damnation: Thou shalt commit adultery.

Not a headline but a great typo from the Pickler:

AP : Obama Veep announcement
Quote
His top contenders are said to include Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Less traditional choices mentioned include former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, an abortion-rights supporter, and Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, the Democratic vice presidential prick in 2000 who now is an independent

I. Love. It.

When I worked in printing, I concluded that you had your "mechanical" tpyos (letters in the wrong order, 6's instead of 7's, and the like), and then you had your "Freudian" tpyos.

Setting some kind of offcial newsletter for St. Michael's College, U of T (of all places), I was given copy that read "OSAP is a program that helps students in financial need," but to my embarrassment rendered it, in the first draft, as "OSAP is a program that keeps students in financial need." Totally unintentional.

Assuming this Lieberman thing, too, was unintentional, I'd slot it in the "Freudian" category.
