Old thread, but it reflects exactly what I'm going through right now. About 10 days ago I woke up with what felt like a vise on the back of my neck, which has meant a 10 day throbbing headache and the inability to look up or move quickly in any direction. But it was slowly going away.
2 nights ago I woke up at 3am and it was so painful I couldn't move. It took me 20 minutes to get out of bed. It has lessened somewhat, but I had a similar 3 am experience last night. Right now my neck is ramrod straight. There are a couple of positions where there is no pain, but not many. Who knew that swallowing included muscles in the back of the neck?
This is a problem as my work is contingent on a functioning body (to deal with/contain potential violence of those in my care). And I am at work right now.
I think this will require professional help. Not sure whether to go to a doc or straight to massage.
