Canada loses 82,600 jobs in February

Canada lost 82,600 jobs in February — all full-time positions — pushing the unemployment rate to a six-year high of 7.7 per cent, Statistics Canada said Friday, as the country struggled under an economic downturn.

“This continues the downward trend in full-time employment observed since October,” the federal agency said. “Part-time employment has shown only a marginal increase over the same period.”

RBC replacing Canadian workers with workers from India. To add insult to injury RBC is having Canadian workers train the workers from India.

However, it is against federal rules for any company to bring foreign workers into Canada temporarily if it will put citizens out of work.
“The rules are very clear. You cannot displace Canadians to hire people from abroad,” said Immigration Minister Jason Kenney.

BC Federation of Labour president Jim Sinclair said Nixon flew out on 24-hours notice from Toronto to meet with him and five other union representatives for 90 minutes Wednesday.
"We told them bluntly our first choice was to leave our money there," Sinclair said. "But, in order to do that with our members, we needed to hear back from him (that) his first choice was to leave the jobs here."
The nine groups gave RBC four conditions to consider in working toward an agreement.
