A four year-old should not be out walking alone for *any* distance in a major city, afaic! Thankfully, the Regina Public School Board has a
good policy around busing kids to school.
All Kindergarten and Grade 1 students residing 0.6 kilometres or more from their designated school are eligible for transportation services. All other elementary school students residing 1.2 kilometres or more from their designated school are eligible for transportation services.
My dad laughs and says kids are babies nowadays. When he was little he had to walk or ride a horse or ride in the cutter a full 3 miles to get to the schoolhouse. By the time I came along, we were bused into town. And, in winter, the bus came right up to the house because our lane was longer than a quarter of a mile. He called us babies, too, jokingly, of course.
