Clearly you didn't see the body count from our giant snowfall recently!

Oh ya!  Schools had to be closed to save the lives of the wee ones and everything!  Some foolhardy Torontonians tried to go out in it despite the ceaseless warnings of "Snowmageddon" and "SnowMyGod" and paid the price*!

If Environment Canada is calling for a centimetre on Wednesday then I guess it's time to clean out my bank account and invest it all in diesel fuel, surplus peanut butter, and tarps.  May God look out for us all.

the snow shouldnt amount to much depending on which weather you read, but winds 40k gusty to 60, and freezing rain that's a dangerous combo. Would have been lovely to have just built off of last week, but  it's early days yet in a Canadian spring sadly.

Where is Mel Lastman when we really need him? I ask you.

We can't call out the troops either -- they're all in Libya or somewhere. Woe is us.

@Magoo, better get a generator, too!   :))

Oh, that Lastman gave us soooo many laughs out here on the Prairies!  I miss him!  Well, except that now we can laugh at Ford! :rotfl  And I thought we chose bad mayors...

Sorry, Tranna, it seems that you're getting the full onslaught of my western Canadian bias today! :ducking

my pseudo grandson has almost a kilometre to walk to school, hopefully he can make it through the weather. What seems like a joke to an adult is pretty serious when you are 4.

A four year-old should not be out walking alone for *any* distance in a major city, afaic!  Thankfully, the Regina Public School Board has a good policy around busing kids to school.

Quote
All Kindergarten and Grade 1 students residing 0.6 kilometres or more from their designated school are eligible for transportation services. All other elementary school students residing 1.2 kilometres or more from their designated school are eligible for transportation services.

My dad laughs and says kids are babies nowadays.  When he was little he had to walk or ride a horse or ride in the cutter a full 3 miles to get to the schoolhouse.  By the time I came along, we were bused into town.  And, in winter, the bus came right up to the house because our lane was longer than a quarter of a mile.  He called us babies, too, jokingly, of course.

well he isn't walking alone of course his mom takes him. Nevertheless the walk is quite a distance for his age and size and most especially through snow or bad weather

Now gonna gust to 60 kph. I'm out of vino. fcuk. gonna pull a skdadl tomorrow and order for delivery. But you know, it's not as if we've changed over with clothing yet, all the heavy coats/scarves/tooks/mittens/boots still lined up by door. I've just gone and squished down ev in the recycling boxes.

Hey, it isn't freezing yet! It will be later tonight, but we're still +1. And this week we flirt with 6-9 all week, barely freezing at night.

Yay! We made it! *knock on wood*

Was 5C here today, going to -5C tonight, and it'll be cooler the rest of the week. Not much snow, though.

Berlynn, I hope you've been having a good time in Tranna despite the Prairie temps. What are you taking back to Regina?

It warmed up yesterday - perhaps 6° in town but not blustery any more and really very pleasant riding Miep. :bike Milder still today - we'll see if I still need my leather gloves.

Actually, temps well above freezing by day but below freezing at night are ideal for maple sap runs.

One of the kids at work has a maple sugar farm (her family farm) and she says it's a great syrup season because the nights are so cold and the days haven't warmed up too much. It's almost like two seasons in one because the last few days have been so cold they've been able to take a break to get things cleaned up and prepared for a new run.
At least this weather is good for something, because I am certainly not having a good time.  ::)
We eat maple syrup every day.  :p
