Are perfumes and scents tested on animals before put on the market? I think there was a significant outcry against this many years ago, but this could be my imagination playing tricks on me.

Boom Boom, it's not your imagination. Many cosmetics and scents have been/are tested on animals. I'm happy to say that Crabtree & Evelyn shows up on all the lists of companies that do NOT test on animals.

Thanks, Sharon - that's what I thought, but my memory has been poor this winter. I hope if the NDP either holds the balance of power in the next election, or actually becomes government, they will pass a bill with tougher restrictions on animal testing.

Thanks Sharon, that sounds lovely. I see that there is still a C+E boutique within Ogilvy's (downtown Mtl); I remember a free-standing shop, on St-Denis I believe. Others are in Laval and St-Bruno; the latter very far away on the South Shore.

I'm looking for a jeans jacket (my lighter one is dying, it from dearly regretted Cotton Ginny). Don't find anything nice. The ones at Reitmans are in a strange denim with too much spandex - they would soon become shapeless. Hard to find. Must have pockets. Would be willing to look at US catalogues (LL Bean, Lands End etc., much as I hate ordering online.

Maybe it's better that way. I online shopped today (but didn't buy) a whole bunch of dresses. But I realized that, between my two mortgages, and all my credit cards maxed out to get me through this reno and move, I would be nuts.

Very difficult to live without a credit card here, because all we have to shop from are two very small corner stores. Everyone shops online here.
