It's all getting so ugly. Amazing that the Harper Regime can actually make Ralph Klein and Mike Harris' governance look reasonable in comparison.

The public service cuts are brutal and have barely any justification. The twaddle I heard about federal parks and the canal system not having nearly the same volume of visitors just seems like a desperate excuse to slash and burn. What of all the HRSDC cuts - that's the department in charge of getting people jobs. What's the excuse there? Crickets.

I f*cking hate this government. The combo announcement of making EI recipients go for low wage jobs coupled with employers having the option to shave off 15% on standard wages for temporary foreign workers makes me sick.

Well this news is going to send Holly Stick to the big giant moon we're having on Sat. night. Harper's gob is giving away our water. Did we already see this? It's Jan.'12

And the cuts to Parks Canada the day before May Day, just plain hubris. A good friend is reconsidering his wanting to buy a 4 season cottage on the Trent/Severn lock system because of the cuts. So already Real Estate must be feeling it up north. Do they even think?

Radio-Canada says sharp cuts to Aboriginal Affairs as well. Hardly a surprise, given their utter contempt for the First Peoples.

I have a cousin (Aboriginal) who is a senior civil servant in that ministry, and even she is scared. At least their kids are adults now, but still studying (daughter is a striker at a Québec faculty). My cousin says the mood in Ottawa/Gatineau is toxic.

This can't be repeated enuf.  http://www.ipolitics.ca/2012/05/02/michael-harris-a-canadian-spring-for-harperland/

The war machine is more important than the social safety net.
The polls tell us that 75 per cent of Canadians want more, not less environmental protection.
Still, there are real signs of a national revulsion beginning to build against what is happening in Canada.
“I’m astounded, frankly astounded, by the degree to which parliament and cabinet acquiesce in following, without any apparent questioning, the PM’s lead,” former PM Joe Clark said in a recent interview. Clark’s view? Stephen Harper has taken the country down the wrong road internationally with a narrow focus on militarism and trade. As for the domestic situation, Clark says Harper has attacked Canadian institutions and doesn’t respect either his party or parliament the way that his predecessors did.
AND
A book that argues that Canadian democracy is threatened by the growing power of the Prime Minister’s Office has won the $50,000 Donner Prize as Canada's best book on public policy.
The Donner jury called it “an important and timely book – one that calls into question the legitimacy of our most fundamental institutions of democracy.” http://www.cbc.ca/m/touch/politics/story/2012/05/01/donner-prize-winner.html

Michael Harris is right, this gob deserves nothing less than a CANADIAN SPRING AGAINST!

Harper forgot to tell us that he was meeting with Israel president Shimon Peres tonight. And that the GG in a pocket will host a dinner, then he's off to meet Mulcair/Rae/Charest etc.

Lawrence Martin has an interesting article in today's Glob.  http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/lawrence-martin/how-long-will-stephen-harper-stay/article2425280/

My message to Mulcair/Rae is simple -
As a voting taxpayer of this country, I support the Opposition parties in whatever parliamentary actions they find necessary to stop this outrageous "ominous" bill.

In an e-mail to me the Liberals are claiming it was their idea to separate the ominous bill up and they were so glad the NDP went with that. Their solution is to let the Liberal Senators handle it when it gets to that stage.

The NDP e-mail is long, but w/o giving away what their strategy is.

Will a judge dismiss this law suit by Geurgis as Giorno wants? If a judge dismisses the law suit won't that give the entire political community the right to smear anyone out of caucus? And since we're paying for the Defense of these corrupt bozos, I really hope it goes to trial. I'm no fan of Geurgis, but I want to see it go all the way.

I sent him a Bravo! e-mail (ahmackay AT hotmail.com) message when I watched him. That really is making a statement. He replied immediately with a thank you.

Conservative-Liberals. The ties are hard to ignore when a federal Con supported Charest in an election, I don't remember who it was anymore. But the collusion task force appointed by Charest is seeing the profits made by the construction co's have been plowed into political coffers. And we know these Cons meddle in provincial politics, B.C. Christy Clark Liberals, Quebec Charest Liberals, Allison/Redford in Alberta for eg., :popcorn

The Cons could delay the election until 2016, so as to celebrate ten years of Harper as PM (February 2006 - February 2016). Harper would probably retire, and part of 2016 used to find his successor and then the federal election starts.
