Conservative war on Arts and Culture
« on: June 29, 2011, 02:09:14 PM »
Do we need a new thread about this?

Anyway, here is a good article suggesting we need a new Massey Commission:

Quote
...Canada’s “Magna Carta of arts and culture,” as the commission’s report was nicknamed, was released in 1951. The detailed document gave advice on the state of Canada’s arts, sciences, humanities, and media based on three premises:

1. Canadians should know as much as possible about their country’s culture, history and traditions

2. We have a national interest to encourage institutions that add to the richness of Canadian life

3. Federal agencies that promote these ends should be supported...

While arguing over at BCL's about the Erickson interview with Margie Gillis, I found this magnificent blog post from 2007 about dance, Margie Gillis, and Parkinson's patients being helped by dancing:

Quote
"My approach is based on listening to the connection between thought, emotion, spirit and body. This is the natural kinetic process whereby our inner landscape translates into electrical impulses that transmit to the muscles the message as to how and with what quality to move. I explore the physical manifestation of this pure experience of being; the neuromuscular interrelationship." - Margie Gillis...
