I'm wondering what les indignés de Montréal will do with their Canadian Army Arctic tents. Those were quite costly; not that any of the people who gave $$$ to support the occupation would begrudge the purchase. It is a pity they served for such a short time.

Yep, I can't abide Naomi Wolf, but it is a good thing if taking part in this movement actually forwarded some element of progressive thought among the retrograde mess in her recent writings (not that she was ever very progressive to begin with). I believe she was developing a weird kinship with women's role in Orthodox Judaism, though it is possible I misremember that. The crap about abortion is bad enough.

I can't find it anywhere other than Fbook, but there's a huge west coast demo this weekend, to occupy the western ports.  Doesn't look like Vancouver is part of it...not yet, anyway...

Gawd but it's wonderful to read Romeo Dallaire's words re: Occupy/the future. The only man in the Senate with sense and has served overseas.
http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2011/12/28/romeo-dallaire-arab-spring-occupy-wall-street_n_1172570.html

Quote
“It's starting. We are entering an era where the revolution in communications is empowering the under-25s and they're able to start realizing that they can coalesce in real-time around the world. They’re also getting more information about what's going on around them, whether they want it or not, because it's all being punched out every minute,” he says, adding that their power extends beyond protests.
“The 2.9 million votes that they represent (in Canada) have never been used and there are MPs who are elected with less than 50 votes. That means one class out of a political science course at U of T could have gone and voted and there would have been a different result at the end. So they hold the balance of power in our democracy with that vote.”
Dallaire notes that the politicization of Canada’s youth hit a tipping point last summer whenParliamentary page Brigette DePape held up her 'Stop Harper' sign during the throne speech.
“The gesture of that young page in the Senate has got to be one of the most significant expressions of opinion of that generation of under-25s has yet seen in this country. You've got all the Senators, all the MPs, the Governor-General, you've got the Prime Minister, the Chief of Defence staff, the Superintendent of the RCMP, all the Justices of the Supreme Court, you've got the whole gallery, you've got the whole country's media in this incredibly decorous room and she goes and walks in the middle of that, very stoically, and puts her sign up, turns around and shows her sign to the other gallery and then is escorted away. No screaming, no yelling, (just) enormous dignity.”[/l][/l]
50 votes - I'm sending this article to every under 30 year old I know, 50 fekkin votes.
Man, this should scare the shit out of the PTB.

Isn't he amazing.  :applause

That is the most eloquent and honest description of Brigette DePape's actions I have ever read, then and now.

Romeo Dallaire and now this?  :o  As one commenter said -  "
Newsweek really published this rant? If that is true, then the mainstream media must be thinking that OWS is going mainstream and it's time to hop on the train. It's going to sell ads! Whoopie!"

Wasn't sure where to post this but decided here to be most appropriate.  Deconstructing Empire is an almost 2 hour vid of a workshop Starhawk and Lisa Finthian gave to OWS folks.  I've only watch a bit but it looks good so I've saved it to watch later.

Proceeds from 'Occupy This Album' will benefit movement

Occupy Wall Street now has an A-list soundtrack: the compilation Occupy This Album, which was announced today and will be released sometime this spring. The record will feature music from Debbie Harry, Jackson Browne, Yoko Ono, Third Eye Blind, Crosby and Nash and many more. Several of the contributors, including Joan Baez and Crosby and Nash, performed at the New York OWS site while it was still active.
