Our power was off for almost 12 hours. Apparently Quebec Hydro in Natashquan phones around tolet customers know there will be outages for upgarding the system - but I don't use the phone (am hearing disabled). I've emailed Quebec Hydro to either fax or email me to inform me of forthcoming power outages; we'll see how that goes.

Quebec Hydro is building a $6.5 billion Romaine hydro project, set to produce 1,550 MW of power, beginning in 2020. I read that Quebec wants to sell that power to the USA - why can't they concentrate on keeping the power on here???

That's a long time without power, Boom Boom. I don't know much about power distribution to remote communities but I don't think there's as many outages in northern Manitoba. But I could be wrong.

All we've had here is a sprinkle of snow. We're expecting rain or snow tomorrow with a high of 2C. Last night it was -12C and our power was off. Next week we have temps of about 7C and possibly snow or rain, but if it's snow, it won't stay. I hope it's another mild winter.

An Accuweather forecast:   The model is clearly going with a warmer-than-normal idea for much of the eastern half of the U.S. and Canada from the end of November through the second week of December, while much of northwestern Canada and Alaska stay in the deep freeze.

No snow yet? Here's some Calvin and Hobbes 'snow people' to tide you over until we're blanketed with the white stuff! :snow :snowball

Fortunately all the snow has melted at the edges of the roads, so I can ride my bicycle today - I have to feed a friend's cat, and if I have to walk it takes me three times as long (public transport to her house from mine is not really any faster than walking). And I have a lot of work to do at home.

I certainly don't need any snow anything to tide me over, but perhaps some bicycles when the bloody stuff sets in for good to tide me over until the next patch of cyclable weather (could be in the springtime, could be earlier; one never knows any more: :bike :bike :bike

Some flowers and green leaves would be even nicer!

Sunny bright and relatively mild here. Still leaves on trees in the back.  :confused

There aren't many leaves left on tall trees here any more (there was a remarkable number until a recent wind and rain storm) but many lower-lying bushes are still covered in leaves, including bushes taller than I am. A patch of lawn across the street is bright green (I think the wet snow sinking into it perked it up. This is very unusual here when it is almost December; we are certainly a zone colder than you, moreover you have more hotspot effect from a larger and less ventilated city.

A McGill professor of economics (on CBC radio advocating wholesale selling of Canadian water to the US) was also vehemently denying anthrpogenic global warming. Sure, he is no more a climate scientist than I am, but it says something about the wilful blindness behind denial when a person with a doctorate in anything deliberately laughs at science reported even by very cautious and conservative observatories.... I forget the jerk's name.

There have been some very strong wind gusts in Calgary; they closed downtown Calgary to traffic. Flying debris broke some office tower windows there:

I didn't go out and didn't notice the wind was so strong until my computer shut off for a second. I don't see any trees down in my area, but remember we had a couple blown down several months ago.

Meanwhile there are a bunch of fires near Lethbridge. I presume the wind is making things worse:

CBC says the fire closest to Lethbridge is now under control:
