 :)) ^^

It snowed all night and it's still going. It looks lovely out there.

My, this is a lovely thread. I particularly liked Toe's comment, "Doc thinks she has a year before nursing home, she's only 85..." That's a lovely way to think.

And I loved lagatta's, "...one of the few times winter lived up to its overly cuddly mystique."

Finally, the Charles Dickens quote that opens this thread is beautiful: "It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold:  when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade."

Wednesday was like that here.  I was in a store and the saleswoman asked me what it was like out. I told her it was beautiful, just like spring, warm sun, balmy air. Then I went out and encountered a gust of the northeast wind and nearly froze!

We had a little snow overnight -- a couple of centimetres -- but we too are expecting rain tomorrow.

Jeepers south and eastern ontario, charge up your cellphones, we're expecting wind gusts up to 90 kph which could take out power. From the particularly vicious tornadoes up and down tornado alley in the States. One town is completely gone.  :o   http://www.thestar.com/news/world/article/1140180--town-completely-gone-after-deadly-u-s-tornadoes  Apparently there are so many cells they can't track them all.

While it is hovering around the freezing point today, tomorrow it is supposed to go up to plus 11° and stay in the double digits (above) for the rest or the week. I'm sure friends here in the GTA and Hamilton know that we are in a colder climate zone and that these temps are exceptional in early/mid March.

I walked to a friend's house in Mile-End (the neighbourhood just south of here, on the other side of the CP railway line and viaducts) as I wasn't sure if the curbsides were clear of ice yet, which would make it a bit dangerous to ride my bicycle. Double-digit warmth will eliminate any remaining curbside ice.

Obviously it can snow again - here, it can even snow in April - but it is unlikely to stay if it does. Long-range forecasts are never the most accurate, but they are predicting above-normal temps at least until the end of March.

I cannot see him/her, but I can hear him or her. A robin tweeting spring forward.

There's more of them. It's getting near sunset and I can hear them twittering away, still haven't seen one yet. So exciting.

Exciting and lovely, but also disturbing. It strikes me that this weather is VERY hasty here in our climate zone, in Montréal.

I saw a robin on Saturday.

Shit, shit, SHIT! Big globs of wet snow are coming down from the sky. I had errands to run; if only I had known about this filth I'd have run them earlier this morning. There is a bit of glop in the streets and it looks too slippery to ride my bicycle.

I don't know if it will warm up enough to melt the shit later this afternoon... It is above freezing.

Perhaps there is a god and He hates me.

We've had gorgeous weather here since Sunday, and the forecast for the next week is the same, with a gradual warmin trend. I'm hoping this signals the end of winter.

A relief - all the glop melted away and there was simply wet (as in rain) on the roads, so I could do my errands by bicycle, saving a great deal of time. All but buying some wine - I'll leave that to later (it is easily walkable if need be) as I was so disconsolate with the big globs of snow that I'd have been able to drink some of it in the afternoon! A definite no-no for freelancers working at home, that.

I don't know why I'm so affected (for better or worse) by the weather. Suppose because it is something over which we have no control. And this was not announced.

I suppose I should put some SOUP fixings in the crockpot. Unlike getting sloshed, that is a positive and sensible reaction to shitty weather. And I'll make some "nettle and mint" herbal tea.

I ran into SEVERAL people, including middle-aged people, wearing the red felt square that is the striking students' symbol. There will be a "family demonstration" on Sunday (hope the cops won't attack that) and the announced weather for that and the St Patrick's day parade (different crowd) is splendid - hope they are accurate this time.

The weather is truly splendid here. I go out as much as I can, but feel so stuck because packing and sorting is a nightmare. I found a wonderful compass and M's first boat Barometer. Needs some spiffing up and it'll be rather nice to have around.
