Environment / Re: Proposed pipelines and opposition
« on: June 06, 2013, 04:56:58 PM »
Byline on CBC TV just now: "Enbridge makes $44thousand donation to Hamiliton police".

It's a blatant conflict of interest. If there's a protest against Enbridge (tar sands pipelines) the cops may feel obliged to protect Enbridge, and charge the demonstrators.

WTF!? how is that even legal?? Police funding should come only from the people - the people everyone seems to have forgotten they are supposed to be protecting.

OH I had such careful privacy settings I don't think anyone ever saw my posts  :p  at least it seemed that way.

But I would read things all the time requesting people complain about certain groups and would always take part and Facebook always came back with this doesnt violate our terms.

Just an update on my medical situation.

The tumour in the appendix was not one they consider malignant but can still kill you because it produces copious amount of mucous. The tumours spread via the mucous coming in contact with your insides. And as my appendix perforated the tumour had the opportunity to spread.

The operation once the tumours spread is known as the SugarBaker technique and involves removing pretty much everything you don't absolutely need to live.

However, one tumour came out with the appendectomy and they found another one on the bottom of cecum which they also removed.

At this point they are hopeful that was the extent of it. So for the next two years I have to have Ct scans every few months to make sure nothing was missed and after that I can assume it isn't going to happen. Unfortunately at no point can they give me an actual clean bill of health because it is a slow growing cancer and can rear up again at any time.  :popcorn

But still sorta good news is still good news!  :p

I haven\t tried it but the consensus seems to be to sprinkle cinnamon or cayenne pepper or hot chili pepper in the area you want to keep them away from.

You will need to reapply after rain and such.

I'm just gonna stick this here so as not to bring down the tone of the May thread. Went for my appendectomy follow up today.

Pathology report suggests cancer.

My doc is seeking a second opinion on all fronts and talking with oncology and I have to go back in a couple of weeks to see what has been agreed upon.

USA / U.S. Judges Admit to Jailing Children for Money
« on: May 01, 2013, 05:41:10 PM »

http://www.inquisitr.com/211740/u-s-judges-admit-to-jailing-children-for-money/

Quote
Philadelphia, Pa. – Judges Mark Ciavarella and Michael Conahan of the Court of Common Pleas in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, plead guilty in open court that they sentenced children to juvenile detention because they were paid off to do it by the PA Childcare and a sister company, Western PA Childcare corporation that ran the private facilities.

Ciavarella wrote in a letter to the court,

“Your statement that I have disgraced my judgeship is true. My actions have destroyed everything I worked to accomplish and I have only myself to blame.”

The two judges face up to seven years in prison under a plea agreement made with the state.

The companies in question paid the two judges more than $2.6 million dollars to send children to detention.  The companies receive a stipend from the government for each inmate they house.  So as more children were sentenced to the detention center, PA Childcare and Western PA Childcare received more money from the government, prosecutors said.
