Howard's team helped Harper win the election and one of the key planks was the "baby bonus" scheme to replace subsidized daycare.
Y'know, I really hadn't a clue as to how freaken out to lunch the compulsory pregnancy people are until I read dear Adam's comment on my blog.

Howard also borrows from those anti-feminist studies about it being healthier to have children younger. How does this line of thinking fit in with new reproductive technologies? And how does it relate to the recent so-con appointments to the Assisted Human Reproduction agency?
I missed that and it's frightening -- not that I missed it, but that so-cons have been appointed to it. Wow! Whomever it is who ousts Harper is just going to have to clean house to eradicate Canada of these troglodytes!
And Debra, I caught that book review a couple of weeks ago and am looking forward to reading the book this winter or spring or whenever it gets into our library system. I have a couple of close friends who are child-free by choice and they're experiencing a difference in the general attitude of people from those of just a decade ago. Few question their decision, especially women.
When we get these cons out of office, there will be good things happening in Canada. And women will be stronger than ever.
