Facebook provides an option to 'Report This Group', which I've just done. You can supply a reason (attacks a person) and send a message (Facebook should not be used for stalking). It'll be interesting to see if the administrators remove the group.

(sorry judy - i just reread your post, and realize you advised the same action   - that's why I'm a lurker)

Dutch Mason has a son, Garrett. The music's different, but the spirit lives on.

You know, I would love to be your token Greeny, but I'm so disappointed in Elizabeth May and the dark green party, that I don't qualify anymore. It was nice to have two parties to choose from, even if it was just during the 90's.

I knew May was religious, I knew she doesn't know how to relate to people very well, I knew she has a habit of saying all the wrong things... but I still wanted her to do well, and I was excited to have a woman lead a national party, or a party that is likely to be national in a couple elections.

Men's Health / Broken Toe
« on: December 04, 2006, 10:03:05 AM »
Thanks skdadl,

My toe's looking better this morning. More red then blue.

Your 'Conservatives running with scissors' makes me worry about my toe more then any colour. I often wonder what they'll cut next.

I called that 1-800 number, but they said they didn't give any medical advice out. It's a great idea, though. I worked at an in-bound call centre to put myself through school, and we answered for a lot of doctors offices. We obviously weren't allowed to dispense medical advice, but we often asked pertinent questions, like "So, you have the flu, then?" and "Have you put ice on it to reduce the swelling?" I think we saved people many long hours of 'emergency' room waiting.

Life from a feminist view / Elizabeth May on choice

Hmmm...

I wonder where their policy went to. New people joined the Greens, and the old guard left, I guess. I don't remember it being a particularly thorough policy. Just a line or two defending access. No 'therapeutic' additions. Sort of a 'of course' attitude.

One of the commenters on my blog (a Green member) said there isn't any Green policy on abortion.

There used to be!

I have one question. On the audio tape, at the beginning, Elizabeth May says:

Quote
Let me explain what the party's position is, and then I'll tell you how as a christian I deal with it personally, ok? First of all, the party's position is that we must maintain access to therapeutic abortions for women in Canada.

But as a former Green Party member, I don't recall this distinction being made, between 'therapeutic' abortions (if the pregnancy is a danger to a women's health) and any other medical classification of abortion they may have come up with.

Is May just making up policy as she goes? Have the Greens changed their policy? Or are they about to?

Men's Health / Broken Toe

I never thought about taping him to his brother. That's a good idea.

A friend of mine said she'd broken toes several times, chasing after her kids when they were younger. She recommended sneakers and aspirin.

Edited to add: thanks for that RN number! I'll keep it on file.

I live in Halifax, and there are community clinics. But I just don't like doctors. And my body always seems to heal itself pretty quickly. But this was a really bad toe meets wall accident.

Hi everyone,

I'm pretty sure I broke my toe on Friday. It turned blue and black on Saturday, and ice a few times a day has reduced the pain and swelling, but the colour's the same. It's one of the wee ones, the third toe from the big toe?

I haven't been to a doctor in ten years, and didn't want to sit in Emergency for 7 hours.

I have two questions:

1. Can a doctor even do anything for a broken toe?
2. Is this me being stupid, or me being self-reliant?

The Ecology Action Centre in Halifax is doing a great job of this same sort of photo meme for their anti-dragging campaign. Many more ideas for photos here:

« on: October 12, 2006, 06:33:04 PM »
http://atlanticwavesconference.ca/

Halifax, NS-- Atlantic Waves, a student-led conference aimed at connecting community and academic feminists, while furthering women's equality in Atlantic Canada, will take place October 13-15, at Saint Mary's University.

The conference will focus on women's challenges and projects in the Atlantic provinces, and how they intersect with or differ from the experiences of their feminist allies in this region and across Canada.
In giving voice to, and listening to the experiences of those who are engaged in the grassroots and academic feminist communities, the conference will provide the opportunity to make connections,
establish partnerships, integrate, and ultimately strengthen the Atlantic feminist networks.

On-site registration will begin on the Friday at 5pm, with a Potluck and a Coffee House hosted at the Gorsebrook Lounge later that evening. The conference opens Saturday morning, with workshops and presentations running throughout the day Saturday and Sunday. The presentations will address a broad range of topics including the experiences of criminalized women in the Atlantic provinces, postpartum depression in rural mothers and strategies for influencing policy change. Workshops, presentations,
and social events on campus are open to all registered participants.

Scheduled alongside the conference is the 2nd annual FemFest - a music, performance and visual art celebration of Atlantic Canadian female talent. There will be an opening reception for the FemFest Art Show on Saturday the 14th at 6:30pm at the Khyber Centre for the Arts. Following the reception, the festivities move to Reflections Cabaret for a night of burlesque, drag, folk, rock, hip hop, spoken word and dance,
with performances by Amelia Curran, Tanya Davis and Feral Bliss among many others.
