Sheesh, it's all and always about eph, isn't it? She couldn't stand that I, fern hill, was first to declare my financial support. She has to go and start her own thread so SHE can be first.

What math was actually decided on in that thread? $15 per year? It seemed like that was still being debated. Regardless, I'm in - but I want to pay only once a year in a lump sum and then forget about it rather than in an ongoing thing. I'm scattered enough with my regular bills and would probably forget it I was to commit to any kind of a payment schedule.

Like Nikita I'd contribute 20 or 50 dollars a year (if the latter, in installments) or be just as happy (or happier!) if it can be done for 10 bucks.

In the end it's really a question of how much will it cost (a known) and how many will send money ( an unknown). Just to repeat my previous assertions that debating amounts we should set is putting le chariot devant les boeufs.

So in the interest of building consensus could we start with $10.- for the first 6 months (if that is enough to pay the bill for the hosting company for the first 3 months; I assume it can be paid quarterly) and see how far it gets us? We'd have to start fundraising again after a couple of months but if we initially paid more, e.g. $ 15.- for the first three months (one of my suggestions) we'd have a little more time on our side.

It hasn't been said (or maybe only once IIRC), I also think that the only privilege paying members should enjoy is the satisfaction of helping build something they believe in and non-paying members should retain all rights and privileges everybody but The Fearless Leader enjoys. Beloved Leader, ahem, Fearless Leader does have a couple of rights the rest of us do not have.

Isn't it wonderful to be both on the left and for dictatorship?

Edited after eph complained (see below): Yabbut, I'm in twice. Once as a nordinary member, once for privileges!

Gaaah... fern, you're only supposed to post once on this thread so it will be easy for us (me) to count how many people are contributing.

Gaaah, now lookit what you made me do. Bah. Humbug.

Im in
When you're on your own
When you're at a fork in the road
You don't know which way to go
There's too many signs and arrows
You haven't laughed in a while
When you can't even fake a smile
When you feel ashamed...
The uniform don't make you brave

alisea this is to get proper hosting, we're hoping to get past the database issues.

ok at this point if we went with the hosting the old host has offered, we're doing really well, 260 short of having the year covered, not counting monthly contributions.

However, we can pay monthly, which I think may be a better option since we aren't locked in the same way.

So if we went monthly we are already almost covered through monthly pledges.

I'm leaning towards going back to the old host. While there were some problems, I think some were being caused by their server starting to go wonky which has been fixed and they are now offering 4 times the bandwidth for the same price we were paying before. Their tech service it toll free and they don't have restrictions on updating and whatnot they way the do here.

Just to reiterate, I'm definitely in for whatever we decide.  I could go either way, monthly payments or a lump sum.
