If you need a hand, let me know.

I'm supposed to be prepping a bunch of stuff for my event tomorrow night, but I can at least offer some advice and help in a pinch.

I still need to settle with this host, however, a money order has gone out this morning to our new host.

So you are all safe for another few months from "I see you still have money in your account" pleas.

And in fact, thanks to your generosity we are able to go for the best package.

Thank you all!

Yay Debra! Yay us!

Debra, is the site going to vanish at some point as the transfer is made?

I'm anticipating a very short down time though things can happen.

Gigi has been generous in offering expertise. So as long as I don't screw anything up.

Selfish personal plea:

Could you do this during the hours I tend to be away from the computer? I can cope with no computer from, say, 6 p.m. to, maybe, 5 a.m.

Others may wish to shuggle those numbers, of course, and I understand entirely, although I will be mean to them forever if I lose.

As it happens it more than likely will be done between those hours.

I will post a notice right under the title before it happens. At that time be prepared to log in with .ca instead of .com. though I am hoping that shortly after both will still work.

the front page will likely need to undergo some tweaking too. and if I am a little on edge during the move I apologize in advance.

It's unpredictable how long it will take the old domain to change over. I've been told it can be as long as 72 hours and I've seen it take almost that long. On the other hand, I've seen it happen in as little as six hours. The one constant every time I've done it: it happens more quickly for some than for others.

Yeah, that's why I propose we set up the new one with the .ca first and roll the .com into it after the fact - they can be accessible in parallel (though we will shut this one down so the databases don't get out of synch).

I.e. once the .ca is resolving everywhere, we'll set up the board scripts, then shut down this one (lock ppl out), migrate the database, and then flip the .ca live.

Yeah.  I know.

I actually tend to hate musicals, which was overridden by the love of LotR.  I am equal parts 15 yr old boy and drag queen in a woman's body.  My cousin (a thirteen year old boy) got tickets for his birthday, and guess who was his first choice of companion for the evening?

I think arguing over LotR is only > < this much less nerdly than arguing over comic book characters, and yet, I have apparently done it enough that I am his first choice for geeky adventures, and his 16 yr old sister called me the "biggest nerd" she knows.

It may not be the IQ points that keep me from the altar ;-)
