Sheesh. Another Fucking Fambly Day.

CBC

Quote
Ontarians will be treated to another long weekend every year if the Liberals are re-elected next month, the government announced Monday.

The holiday, proposed for the third Monday in February, would be called Family Day and focused on giving families more time to spend together.

I have no problem with a holiday in Feb. I propose calling it I don't wanna get outta bed it's fucking February Day.

But it would take more than that to get me to vote for the party that campaigned on change and then went about with the continued implementation of the Harris platform.

Oh, this is so silly. We have talked about a February stat holiday for thirty years at least. At one point in the 70s, Peter Gzowski ran a contest to name a nation-wide February holiday, and Chinook Day won, which I was very happy about, of course. So then nothing happened, not here, anyway.

Dalton McGuinty has to be the silliest politician in the country. Maybe he doesn't have the worst politics, but he is essence of milquetoast. On the charisma scale, as Tommy Paine at babble long ago determined, he is Absolute McGuinty -- ie, the baseline, the utter zero.

Given Iggy's admiration of the family values of these guys (I suggest you turn the volume down):

Maybe the third Monday in February could be named Puffin Day from coast to coast.

Creationism raised as Ont. election issue

excerpt:

TORONTO — Publicly-funded religious schools would be allowed to teach creationism and other theories, says Progressive Conservative Leader John Tory.

Holy crap!  :panic

ETA: I placed this here because I didn't want to start a new thread for one news item. And, this is the Provincial Elections forum.

Chinook day is a sweet idea (yay, winter-haters!), although chinooks are very far from here. I find "Family Day" extremely offensive. Telling people how to live.

It is offensive Lagatta and so is McPointy Head. This province needs some serious revisions. McMilk/Toast went to a Catholic school, his children go to catholic schools, his wife teaches at a catholic school, where Creationism was taught. Forget Tory, he's lost it now and an interesting seat to watch will be the present education minister Wynne v Tory. I suppose whoever wins that wins the election.

But the absolute worst part of this entire scham is the Greens being kept out of the televised debates. Why the hell should the Media get to make that decision? Many Ontarians suffer real oppression here and desperately need to take back the media. The mass media should belong to the people and should answer only to the people. But I guess that is just too fucking democratic and socialist for the mainstream.

We should boycott the teevee debates, has it ever changed your mind anyway? Never has mine. Ptui!

They must have changed the curriculum recently because I attended, and even taught briefly in the Catlik school system and creationism wasn't part of it.  I thought that was a US / Western Canada Christian fundamentalist schtick?

I spent way to many years in Catlick school, and creationism was never treated as a "science" - our biology curriculum included Darwin.  The "god created adam and eve" thing was kept strictly within religion class and was not viewed as being in conflict with what we were taught in Science.

John Tory has lost the election with that bit of genius.

As for the Feb holiday, I like Chinook Day. No, we don't all get chinooks, but we should. Someone at Progblogs (Scott?) likes 'Flag Day'. :pukey:

*cough*

If I could remind y'all: much of Ontario is paved, simply paved, with fundies and right-wingers. So are parts of Quebec, which for a long time was a powerhold of the Créditistes. There are lots of fundies in Atlantic Canada.

Soooo ...   :annoyed:
