Extraordinary Blogosphere Citizens

The Canadian F-Word Awards does not have a Biggest Swinging Dick, er. . .  Best Blogosphere Citizen category. And that's as it should be. We're all equal out here in the toobz, yes?

Nonetheless, the F-Word Awards are meant to be a celebration. So why not celebrate some individuals?

I'll start it by embarrassing the hell out of our own Fearless/April Reign/Debra.

When things were not going well for the feminazis on another discussion board, she went to work and created this place. In quick succession (I may have this wrong; if I do, someone correct me), the under-used (but not for want of her nagging, er, encouragement) Front Page, intended to be a blog-space for any and all BnR members, appeared. Rose's Place was originally going to be a feminazi version of the Front Page, but Debra turned it into an aggregator for F-Word blogs. Blogging Change is another aggregator she put together for the real progressive bloggers.

Then, waaaay ahead of her time, she came up with NetRoots, an aggregator for blogging politicians and wannabe pols.

Now, I'm biased of course, but I think her crowning (so far) achievement is Birth Pangs, about which no less an eminence than pogge hisownself said:

I stand accused of being subtle (see comments in the post below). I think I'm being credited with more subtlety than I actually possess.

But after reading around blogtopia (Skippy!) this morning, this post is to send a message. Personally I've always kind of liked women who speak their minds. And sometimes subtlety is over-rated. Sometimes a little blunt language helps shed light on an issue and sometimes if you don't crank up the volume, the other side will drown you out. That's part of their game.

And if that's not clear enough, I think Birth Pangs was brilliantly conceived and doesn't require defence. Just keep on truckin'. Er, sorry, that's a different tune.

All the while keeping up her own blog, April Reign. And, presumably, having some kind of Real Life.

So, here's to you, Fearless. Thank you.

Yes, I think that what Debra has done over the last -- what is it? less than two years -- is extraordinary.

Everybody who comes here regularly recognizes it, and I think others have begun to notice. Message boards don't usually get much respect in the 'sphere, but BnR is getting a rep ... Ok, maybe not always a positive rep among teh boyz, but at least they spell the name right.

It has been quite the ride, hasn't it? And we've all learned a few things.

To Debra:   :applause:

My name is pogge and I approve this message. And I'm not even demanding a cookie in return. Nice work, Fearless.

  Wish I could take credit but really all I did was provide a place for all the amazing people here to get together.

Kudos belong to you all.  :applause:
