This just in from the NDP candidate in my federal riding:

We've been asked by the federal party to be prepared for an election any time from mid February on. No one knows for certain but the most likely timing seems to be April.

So, maybe the Libruls are going to show some backbone after all.

Come on, Libs. Let's have one just after the AB election is done.... not at the same time.

Kuri, I completely missed that an AB election has been called.  When is it?

Oh it hasn't been called officially, but all parties are fully nominated (or close to). It's expected to be called anyday. L., who's a provincial civil servant, says all departments are undergoing "election ethics" training around what sort of requests from ministers should not be honoured during an election.

So, all signs point to soon.

Since I plan on working extensively on the federal election, I actually switch between wanting one (get it over with and get Jaffer started on finding a new job!) and not wanting on (don't really want to jump right into a campaign when so many other things to do).

And what do folks think about the assertion that the NDP can take 6 to 12 seats in Quebec?

I would think it would depend on there being 6-12 very high profile candidates with very strong connections to the local community creating strong local organizations.   Those are alot of "ifs".

In the 1988 "free trade" election the NDP won 14% of the popular vote in Quebec...but it didn't translate into any seats at all.

Well, I hope so. So far, I'm not impressed by how the Quebec folk are handling things there. Lots of confusing messages. :annoyed:
