There seems to be something of an anarchist blossoming on the prairies. Maybe I only have that impression from noticing blogs at PB, but there are a bunch.

Happy May Day! :stike: :redflag: :feminism: :stike: :redflag: :peace: :stike:

JENNY    Richard Desjardins

Nos seules vacances c’était quand on allait s’coucher,

Comment t’as fait’ pour me rendre heureux?

À soir mon beau camion vient te livrer,
Un merci grand comme la mer.
Oh, Jenny!

And happy May Day, all!  I've been asked to help out at the rally so I'm heading over there soon.  Hope the sun peeks out by noon!

I meant among bloggers at PB. There's Saskatchewan Liberty Train, but there are others, at least one woman I've noticed. Maybe they're not all prairies, but I remember being struck by how many there are one morning.

Today, Pedron and Rolf Gerstenberger, union leader at U.S. Steel Canada (formerly Stelco), will lead workers in a march through Hamilton's industrial core to protest the loss of manufacturing jobs.  Go Rolf!

By the way, the demo lineup here (Montréal) - and where you live?

The major trade unions are holding the national (Québec-wide) demo on the 3rd of May this year, but some lefties are calling for a demo this evening:

6 pm, corner Ontario and Valois. Métro Joliette in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve. Some of the groups  taking part:
Anarkhia, Apatrides anonymes,

The big trade-union call out is on the 3rd of May (Saturday) Le 3 mai at noon, Parc Lafontaine (Rachel - Parc-Lafontaine) The theme is "Ensemble pour la santé" (together for health) in defence of the principles of universality and no user fees. (gratuité).

This march will culminate in a show at Jeanne-Mance Park just beside the Mountain - it should be a nice day.

Rounding out the weekend is a march for immigrant rights in Côte-des-neiges, on Sunday 4th of May, 12:30 pm Starting Point: Corner of Victoria & Van Horne (metro Plamondon, Van Horne exit). A lot of groups in defence of refugee claimants and those under security certificates are taking part.

And yes, I know there is the Ottawa rally against bill C-484!

Larry Hubich's post, linking to the regina mom's post has garnered an attack comment from wankr, I mean, hankr.

Great event today at the steps of the legislature!  I'd say 750 to 1,000 people were there.  The speeches were short, sweet, and powerful!  And the energy was fantastic!!!  Saskatchewan does not like Bills 5 & 6.

Strategically, the SP has faltered.  Their attack on labour has only served to energize activists.  The Devine regime of the late 80's/early 90's was well into their 2nd term before they really riled up folks...

That is wonderful, and so is the fact that trade unions and community groups in the "RoC" are taking up May Day as a day of protest.

We recall that even in the US, one of the first places May Day was celebrated (some historians say the first, other that it was first in Australia) and where it had been all but suppressed even from memory, that immigrant workers, especially Latino workers, reclaimed it as a day of struggle. :stike: :redflag: :stike:

SK unions have hosted May Day events for as long as I've been an activist - 20+ years.  It was Labour and farmers and women who pieced together the CCF.  But this is the first time in a long while they've held a demonstration on May 1.  Mind you, it's the first time Labour legislation has been attacked so harshly.

I see that the regina mom's post on the anti-woman legislation has attracted a fetus fetishist.

Yes, of course I know of the coalition that founded the CCF, the most successful social-democratic party anywhere in North America (north of the Rio Grande). But I'd read that the May Day rally was a new development - thanks for clearing up EXACTLY in what sense that is true.

I saw that dockworkers piece last night but was a little too tipsy to pass it along.  I lve that 10,000 workers were willing and able to take back their power and make such a strong statement!
