General Bitching and Moaning
« on: June 29, 2008, 12:06:14 PM »
Coffee maker died yesterday only 3 months old. Still under warranty so got a new one free. Still I hate the way things are built to die now.  :annoyed:

Cellophane: why?

So that the Cowardly Lion would have something that rhymes (roughly) with "elephant."

Viz:

What if you met a hippopotamus?
I'd tear him from top to bottomus!
What if you met an elephant?
I'd wrap him up in cellophant!
What if you met a brontosaurus?
I'd show him who's King of the Forest!

And so on.

Wore his trouser cuffs too tight
Unfashionable to the end
Drank his ale too light ... "

If you talk behind someones back in a somewhat nasty way but are unable to say these exact things to a persons face, then I would class this as bitching. If however you confront a person/people to their face, and then repeat it to someone else, as in telling them how you felt and what you did about it, I would class this as having a moan.

Spam. The actual link is the same as the other hmmmm. The reasonable sounding text is designed to fool the automated spam filters into thinking it's a legitimate comment. If I saw this on the wiki, I'd block the domain. In fact I will when I make my rounds later.

Ok. When I post a "Hmmn," it means that I've put a temporary ban on and left it for Debra. I do not think of myself as the guillotiner unless it's terribly obvious. But Debra has caught them anyway.

bought  a toaster from stupid store (loblaws) a few weeks ago and it popped, smoked and died the very first time it was used.  they replaced it of course and the replacement has worked fine.  thats quality control: slap 'em together and sell them cheap and replace the ones that fail before people forget where they bought it.

I'm on my fourth coffee maker in five years.

The first one, I broke the carafe and couldn't find the exact replacement, and it's the type that won't work unless you have the exact carafe.

The second one, just stopped working after about six months.

The third one, I accidentally set on fire and melted the cord.

The current one is a hand-me-down wedding gift from friends at work. The carafe is aluminum, so at least I don't have to worry about it being rendered unusable the same way as the first one...

I still remember the day that T offered to do the vacuuming for me and proceeded to run over the cord with the powerhead, thus melting whole machine down and almost starting a fire.

I have the cheapest li'l toaster you could imagine -- it has a cute plastic outer frame, but if you peek inside, you see this incredibly small and flimsy metal structure that should never have worked in the first place. And it refuses to die.

If it would just die, I would feel justified in getting one of those toasters that look like 1930s roadsters. They cost a lot, and I don't eat that much toast, but they look neat.

I like it! But I'd best not show M. Nemmine, she's expressed interest in a Hello Kitty one anyway.

When I was small my dad rarely went away on business trips, but once he was away for a few days and then called to say he'd had some lousy experiences -- I forget what all, but la mama reckoned he'd get home in a grouchy mood (which was equally rare; pretty mellow guy, mostly).

So she thought: I'd better do something for him, get one of his usual chores done so he can relax when he arrives. She got out the lawnmower and started cutting the grass (this was before the parents had volunteered me, and then my brother, to do it regularly). The grass was a bit long, a bit wet, and the mower was electric and in the circumstances sluggish. After a few swathes it just quit. She unplugged it, turned it over and... out came a cloud of blue, bad-smelling smoke. The motor had burned out. She was mortified.

But as I recall, on his arrival dad wasn't in a bad mood after all, and just shrugged good-naturedly. The machine was several years old anyway, and not especially good to start with. No-one's fault, he concluded.
