Province's new child benefit fails thousands of children
« on: July 21, 2008, 05:14:13 PM »
I'm glad to see this issue is being addressed. The new system is not only a mere shuffling of funds but because it relies on the Child Tax Credit to cover all expenses for children now, a family who was not on welfare the tax year before may end up with almost nothing to support their children on.

And there is no way people living on welfare are going to put money away each month when it is needed for surviving day to day.

SUDBURY, ON, July 21 /CNW Telbec/ - The introduction of the provincial
government's new Ontario Child Benefit (OCB) this month will leave thousands
of low-income children without back-to-school and winter clothing allowances.
The situation is so dire that some municipalities like Sudbury are choosing to
step up to pay the allowances themselves.
This Tuesday, anti-poverty advocates and Sid Ryan, Ontario President of
the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) that represents social workers,
will discuss how the new Child Benefit is creating 'have' and 'have not'
communities for children by downloading the decision to offer these allowances
to municipalities.
They will discuss the impact on local families that receive social
assistance and the inequities in the north arising from the implementation of
the new program.

    At this media conference:

              Date:     Tuesday, July 22, 2008
              Time:     2:00 p.m.
              Location: CUPE 4705
                        790 LaSalle Blvd
                        Montrose Mall, Sudbury

    Speakers will include:

      - Bev Patchell, front line social service worker
      - Sid Ryan, CUPE Ontario President
      - Wyman MacKinnon, President, CUPE 4705

For further information: Valerie Dugale, CUPE Communications, (647)

McGuinty like Campbell is a con-con.  And he has made this a class-war as usual.

There will be No Poverty Plan although he has no trouble giving $635 million to fund the Pan Am Games.but a $500 million budgetary shortfall exists, so hospitals and schools should expect less funding.

As well let's not forget the 25% pay raise to himself and all MPP's to start 4 days before Xmas. He just wants us all to Shopping

Premier McGuinty, your a Liar, a Scammer and a Coward. The feds are not coming to rescue you. Do Something Now!
