Calls from campaign workers
« on: September 11, 2008, 07:44:25 PM »
I've had two from the NDP, one just now. Well, I'm a member. As soon as each identified self, I said: 'I've got no money and no time.' Both laughed, asked if I'd take a sign and if I'd be supporting Olivia. Yes and yes.

Quick. Painless.

I've never had a problem with the campaign calls, especially from the NDP. They want money, but they back off right away if you tell them the truth about your circs.

I hate the robocalls, mind you, even when they come from Jack. Am I right in thinking that if I hit 33, I can short-circuit the message?

I didn't mean that the calls were a problem. It's me. I feel guilty, talk too much, get whiny maybe. I was pleased to have come up with something short and snappy. Also to be able to make those poor people laugh. I've done that, called people. It's grueling. Well, you all know what a people-person I am.

On robo-calls, I hit 7 (erase on Bell Answer system) til they stop.

Oh, I was agreeing with you, fyrnova, probably put that badly. Sorry.

I once had a wonderful opportunity to carry on a conversation with someone in a hired call centre -- ie, this was not a volunteer committed to a cause but a neutral worker reading from a script. I can't go into details for reasons that will become obvious. But she was reading me a story, and I felt that I finally had to say to her, "Yes, I know. He's my brother." Long pause. And then we had the interesting conversation. We parted on good terms.   ;)
