Ontario NDP leadership race
« on: December 01, 2008, 06:57:53 AM »
Does anyone know when we are going to be voting? And how we do that?

My memory was just jogged by an e-message from Cheri DiNovo, who is supporting Peter Tabuns.

The ONDP has nothing to do with any coalition -- they're just choosing a new leader to succeed Hampton, who is retiring.

Yes I know. I was referring to the posters on the federal politics page.

Good post from Cameron at Peterborough Politics on Gilles Bisson, the candidate he is supporting. Do watch the video if you can -- he makes a good speech.

Apparently we can start to vote online today -- I got a link from Andrea Horwath's campaign, although I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to figure this out. My membership renews automatically and I'm not sure I have my new card -- will I need it? Do we have membership numbers?  :panic

After a bit of detection, on behalf of those, like me, who cannot find teh ballot package (y'see? there are reasons to open the mail after all), I discover:

Phone the independent org who are running the voting (Intellivote, or something like that) at 1.888.281.8683. Nice young person will be able to call up your name right away and will send out new package, to arrive in two to three days, while disabling your previous PIN right away so that you can't vote twice.

And then control your natural impulses towards junk mail for two to three days.

So the results are expected this weekend, then?  I've been following Andrea Horwath's campaign because of Scott Piatkowski, but I really know nothing...

Me neither B and I should really. Hamilton is so screwed right now and it is important. I'm cheering for Andrea, because at least I watched all her good work for the disabled worker. She knows her stuff, plus her office sends out cheerleading letters to us in the trenches occasionally which I've always appreciated.

Holy mackerel! I voted for Andrea, but I didn't think she would win!   ;)

But now that she has, this should be interesting. Suddenly, we have a party leader who doesn't look like one of the grey old men -- doesn't sound like one, either. Look at the quotes from the candidates in that story -- I mean, that line of Michael Prue's sounds like sexist code to me, and I'm glad he lost. No more business as usual, boys.

Congrats, Ontario NDP!  May Horwath fare better than former SK Lib Leader and feminist activist, Lynda Haverstock, fared.
