Nation shudders at large block of uninterrupted text
« on: March 10, 2010, 06:19:44 AM »
I honestly didn't know where to put this.

I think this will go down as one of their classics, right up there with "Perky Canada has own laws, government!"

Love it!!  Posted to my FB.  I have a feeling some of my friends who have children with learning disabilities will be offended.  However, I feel as this speaks to the (occasional) angst of the language instructor. I think I will use it someday, in some far-off Grade 9 English classroom... sigh.

I thought of you when I posted that, steffie. How goes the job situation?

Still no "big" bites.  I am very multi-talented, however.  :D  Tutoring, transcribing, writing/editing, even performing as a Rehab Aide.  If it's language-based, I do it, just part-time.  Seriously considering relocating to the Muskoka area.

I'm not completely devastated to have extra time on my hands as the sun reawakens this frozen town.

I just noticed when I printed the article out that there's some tiny print at the bottom: "The Onion is not intended for readers under 18 years of age."  Why such a disclaimer?  I would think that satire could be a useful teaching tool for students 13-17.  By the time they're 18, they're likely out of school, with nobody to explain it to them.

I agree, that's a shame, but I wonder whether they've had legal troubles in the past. If that's a joke, I don't get it, but maybe their lawyers have advised them to do that.
