Oh Martha, such a disappointment. Wow, how far down the chain does one have to go for the Liberals to find a decent, progressive leader?

Is Justin available?

I happened to look at the Tyee and found this about Colombia, the US and Canada:

Quote
...The report focuses on the "false positives" scandal that broke in late 2008, when it came out that Colombian soldiers had murdered over 2,000 civilians and dressed their cadavers up as guerrillas in order to boost results in the war on drugs and terror. The report, which draws on statistics provided by the State Department and the Colombian military, shows that the Colombian army units which received the most American funding committed the most atrocities...

Substantial thread drift here, but almost in a similar vein: Love, Hate, and Propaganda on CBC

excerpt:

Love, Hate and Propaganda. a six-part documentary series co-produced by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and Radio-Canada, will bring the most important war in history into sharp focus through the lens of propaganda. This was the first modern war in which all combatants bombarded their citizens with messages: through newsreels and posters, radio addresses and songs, speeches and rallies. The great - and the evil - minds of that era knew propaganda could awaken powerful passions: love, devotion, anger, and hatred. They employed truth, half-truths and sometimes outright lies, used powerful symbols and persuasive words to sway entire populations. Today's viewers, familiar with every kind of messaging, will discover how war was sold around the world by these early practitioners of mass propaganda. Every movie house, school, newspaper and radio became a forum for persuasion and manipulation.

Colombian ex-Pres Uribe appointed Vice Chair to the U.N.’s four-member international committee investigating the Israeli commando attack on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla.
Interesting choice.
On the plus side : Lots of previous experience with corruption and the murder and subsequent dressing up of innocents as enemies of the state for money, and a good familiarity with Israeli military equipment and Israeli espionage techniques.
On the minus side : Murdering motherfucking bastard with no respect for international law.

After two months of intense diplomatic effort, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon managed to convince the Israeli government to accept an independent investigation into the Israeli boarding of a humanitarian flotilla bound for Gaza this past May 31. Ban managed to put together a commission headed by the former prime minister of New Zealand, Geoffrey Palmer, and the outgoing president of Colombia, Alvaro Uribe, who will serve as the committee's president and vice president, respectively.
