The NRTEE website is now closed down, but some or all has been saved by U of Alberta:

http://wayback.archive-it.org/org-401/*/http://nrtee-trnee.ca/

I think other universities are also saving government stuff, but say they can't save it all, article about it:

Here is what U of A and others use: http://www.archive-it.org/

And the U of A collections: http://www.archive-it.org/organizations/401

You may have heard the news about ELA Experimental Lakes Area, that research will go on there this summer and there is an MOU and negotiations underway for IISD and Ontario and maybe other provinces to take it over. Lots of coverage.

This article has interesting opinions by David Schindler about the DFO, and he also says previous governments tried to shut down ELA three times before this. Harper Conservatives are not the only anti-science politicians, though the worst so far.

Lately the National Research Council NRC has been in the news, talking about how we don't need pure science, just the kind of science that makes money (So they're channelling that ass Kevin O'Leary) This is something we've realized they were doing for a while:

Here are a couple of US bloggers reacting:

I'm from Ottawa, and I had friends who have worked with the scientific bodies that have been cut by Harper: the Central Experimental Farm, and the NRC. I imagine they're glad to have either retired recently, or likely will soon, if they haven't been laid off already.

The Conservatives continue to make Canada an international embarrassment.  :mad2

They keep making bad decisions and then wasting money on ads pretending they are doing well.  Here's a column with more information about the head of NRC:

Cheer up, Boom Boom, the Farm will make great condos, with all those baronial heritage buildings as "anchors"!

Now the Federal gov't is giving some funding to PEARL:

Maybe they are starting to listen to all the criticism and back down on some of their anti-science moves. Gotta pretend to have an environmental program so Obama can approve Keystone XL.

John Dupuis, a science librarian, has made a long chronological list with links of decisions made in the Conservatives' war on science:

He also linked to this list of environmental science programs that have been slashed:
