This was on CBC a few minutes ago...
Welcome to RinkWatch, where backyard skating meets environmental science.

It's an attempt to measure climate change by the length of time skating rinks stay frozen.

It is supposed to be a bit less intensely cold tomorrow. I have been having trouble working - oh, I'll meet my deadline, but it is taking me twice as long as it should. I feel as if my brain is half-frozen too.

I'm almost over my cold - I think - just a dry hacking cough and associated headache. Am staying inside today rather than risk getting cold outside - wind chill is still in the -30C range. Supposed to warm up a bit tomorrow.

I didn't go out at all yesterday but need to do a bit of shopping (nearby) today. Here, the temperature is predicted to rise sharply next week, and even to go above 0!

One advantage of heading to the Jean-Talon Market is that it has an abundant supply of clean public toilets - very useful in such cold!

My outdoor thermometer reads -20C right now. Windchill supposed to be -30C, going down a bit tonight. High tomorrow forecast here is -15C. The only warm day for us in the next week will be Wednesday at -8C.

Happy Robert Burns day!  :pipes :singlemalt

my mom\s favourite poem

My love is like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June :
My love is like the melody
   That’s sweetly played in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in love am I :
And I will love thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry.

Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi’ the sun :
And I will love thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only love,
And fare thee weel a while !
And I will come again, my love,
Thou’ it were ten thousand mile.

Ha! Good one Debra. I was thinking of the Can. writer who always used the term Rabbie Burns, can't remember his name.

To add - the snow is beautiful, that perfect silent peaceful kind of snow, so rare now.

We had wild weather yesterday - high wind, heavy snow, and then it warmed up and the rains came. This morning everything here is covered with ice, and we're expecting heavy rain followed by cold weather today and tonight, and more high wind (90 kph). I think I'll stay inside today.  :bed
