Lunkhead Brian McCabe re-signed by Leafies, $25 million for 5 years. Well, he was the highest scorer, but shee-it, $25 million!!

I guess it must be playoff time?  Nothing but football in the sports pages over here.

Sabres lost. Pooh. So it'll be Carolina and Edmonton starting on Monday. Carolina shouldn't even have a hockey team.

I don't have cable, so I listened to the game on radio. Haven't done that in a long time. It was kind of neat.

The last time I listened to a game, it was because the early game went into overtime and the late game (with Leafies when they were in the western division)  had started. CBC-TV would not cut away from overtime, so I continued to watch with the sound off, while I listened to the other game on radio.

It was late and I guess I was dopey. Suddenly, the weirdest thing -- the two games melded. What the radio guy was describing was happening on my telly.

Took me a couple of Twilight-Zone seconds before I figured it out. Overtime was over, telly had switched to the late game. The team colours were similar enough.

Ijit.  :hockey:

Yay for hockey emoticon!

Is this the place to rant about how the NHL has gone to hell in a jockstrap ever since the league expanded beyond its great six teams?

Mwahaha. (Did I spell that correctly?) I am in control. I am green. I am omnipotent. Just try to say something positive about Sens or Canucks. Just try.

um, Debra, where is my eject button?

Argh. Oilers lost Roloson (doesn't look right), their stand-on-his-head goalie last night. Out for the series, said coach. Until then, a terrific game, living up to its billing as fast and hard-hitting.

Potential instant hero time for back-up goalie, Conklin. But I dunno. . .

That sure was a game, though.  Talk about edge-of-your-seat!

I was stunned when Roley went down. And they keep blaming his own player! Ha! It was a cheap shot, cheap shot I say and not the first of the night!   Vengance thy name is Laroque.

I will be dying tomorrow night watching, I want the Oilers to win only slightly less than I wanted Calgary to win.

I wonder if there will be retribution for Roloson.  Anything can happen since the Canucks were stupid enough to put a bounty on Moore's head.  Oh yeah, I forgot, that was just a joke.

Mod hat on: I have the buttons now.

Mod hat off: Injuries apart, I love play-offs. The winner is the one who wants it more.

I want to see some good coaching. What will Edmonton do next?

I only watch playoff hockey.  Until I was 17, I didn't give a flying rat's arse about the game but that spring the boy I was interested in was a hockey player so we watched some hockey together.  I loved it, the games were fast and furious and desperate.  I was so horribly disappointed in the fall when the next season started because the tempo was much more ho-hum.

I like the Oilers and Flames equally, and I'm glad there's a Canadian team in the playoffs again.  A Western Canadian team at that.  Mwahaha I'm becoming a crusty Westerner.

eta: Without Roloson I don't see this series going anywhere good, even with good coaching.

Here are some absolutely wonderful graphs of water use in Edmonton during Games 3-5 of the Oilers-Ducks series.
