Remembering the Rev. Canon Tony Hitsman,
better known to us as Boom Boom

Quote
The Diocese of Quebec mourns the passing of one of its clergy, the Rev. Canon Tony Hitsman. Born Anthony William Hitsman on October 5, 1949 and ordained June 8, 1990, Tony served in the Diocese of Quebec in a variety of capacities. He will be sorely missed.
The funeral will be held at St. Phillips, Kegaska, Saturday December 21st, presided over by the Rt. Rev. Dennis Drainville.
Please keep the friends and family of the Rev. Canon Tony Hitsman in your prayers this Christmas season.

This is so sad. I had a feeling he was going home to die.

I just got in so I'm just seeing the news now. I too felt Tony was going home to die. He suffered a lot. I'm so very very sorry.

Oh no, another good human has departed.  :crying But he's left us with wonderful memories of his sharp humour & wit and love of goodness in the world. And food!

My thoughts go out to his family & those closest to him.

I'm still trying to process it, but since my curiosity is endless I wonder if he has met Hephaestion and our gorgeous Croghan. Hugs to All. :hug

Im really having a hard time processing it
When you're on your own
When you're at a fork in the road
You don't know which way to go
There's too many signs and arrows
You haven't laughed in a while
When you can't even fake a smile
When you feel ashamed...
The uniform don't make you brave

I can certainly relate Toe and Bacchus. It really went by so fast - his sharing that he was in for tests to undergoing treatment to deciding to go home to passing away. The last transition is possibly the most painful since it seems he had so little time to be back home before he dies.

I remarked somewhere that Boom Boom had health issues and quite a lot of suffering but he had such a zest for life and got such enjoyment from his daily routine -- not just his gardening and fixing up his home but his movies and, most of all, his music. He had such a wonderful relationship with his music and loved talking about it as well as listening to it -- and also had happy memories of the many concerts he'd gone to over the years.

It's rather nice to remember that about him.

So very true, Sharon. His love of music, especially Kate & Anna McGarrigle, led him to start and lovingly care for a Facebook fan page. The members of that group consider it his legacy. I also know that Anna McGarrigle became his friend through this effort.

I just saw this today, and am very sad to lose Boom Boom. But I will remember his gentleness and humour, and now I get the joke of why he told us he had been a hitman.
