The correspondence between DFAIT and Syria re Abdelrazik a year ago show that Syria was at the very least invested in clearing up its international image as a place western countries sent its citizens to be, uh, interrogated.

What did Syria ever have to do with Abdelrazik?

Nothing. But it was in the DFAIT correspondence re A. that Syria's complaint was mentioned.

Ok -- gotcha.

The Syrians, for good reason, had become very scared of what BushCo might be planning for them, so I'm sure they've been doing PR like crazy with everyone (although not enough to co-operate with Justice O'Connor, eh?). Still, they have huge numbers of their own people in those hell-hole prisons, and Fisk shouldn't be pretending that a change of mind about proxy torture of Westerners is going to change much for the Syrians.

Good read. Thanks Toe! Basically the award is for pre-emptive peace (as if that's going to happen).

That panel is misguided, how many times has O said "We can't do it alone"? It's obviously too much expectation for one person to handle. Altho I'm snickering that McChrystal's head is prolly exploding.

I'm tempted to go to Faux News to see how they're handling this story.

Thanks, toe! Sent on to my reliable "self-hating Jews"...

En passant, and nothing to do with the subject, but there are huge flashing ads for Scientology at the Independent site.
