Emergency fundraising
« on: August 12, 2006, 12:35:43 PM »
To all happy BnRers -- and we are happy to have this site, aren't we:

We need to raise some money. Debra's computer problems look insurmountable. This is her site, but she does not have the capacity to return here right now, which is bad for us all.

To me, the server problems come second to this most basic one. We need between $400 and $700 to get Debra up and working again, and I'm sure we can do that within the next few days, yes?

There are two ways (at least) that people can contribute -- there's a PayPal button at the top of the index pages, or people can send money by snail-mail. For Debra's address, send a PM to me or to fern hill.

I know that people have different levels of resources, many of us not very much, so don't feel compelled to name a figure here, although a general message of support might cheer us all up.

Hee. I feel like Goldie Whatshername on Buffalo PBS, doing fundraising.  OK, here goes.

That's right, skdadl. We all know how much BnR means to us. No other, 'commercial' station produces the high quality and low silliness of BnR.

Our volunteers are standing by, ready to take your calls. And we have some fabulous thank-you gifts.

Over to you, skdadl.

And fern hill, I see that our PM lines have already started to light up. Ok: one, but that's a start.

Now, we're going to return you to your favourite programs in just a minute (or at least I am, because I have to go out now), but let's all take this break to remember the work that has gone into bringing us such terrific programming on BnR so far. The competition for all those BBC series, not to mention gunnar and 'lance, is pretty stiff these days, but Debra has negotiated the best deals in the business over the last couple of months.

If you support moderation-free moderation, then this is YOUR channel. Make that pledge today. Support our benevolent dictator.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Okay this is kismet or something. Because of a benevolent soul among us, I am now actually able to do a wee(very wee) contribution, as in my first pay it forward gesture.

I'm scared of the button. What will happen?

Toedancer, there's a thread on PayPal here http://www.breadnroses.ca/forums/viewtopic.php?t=42.

Or you can PM me or skdadl for Debra's real-world address and send her cheque or money order.  I don't have her address with me right now, but will tomorrow.

Thanks Fern, I have no idea if we have a PayPal account.

So I will use snail mail.

I will PM you Debra's address right now, then I gotta get out of here.

Excellent choice, caller. There are other fabulous gifts. This BnR cookbook, with contributions from all of our wonderful cooks here at BnR, is available at the *whispers* what level? *whispers* ten-dollar level. It has entire sections on sushi and smoothies.

I don't know how to help. Honest, I want to, but I'm in debt, haven't yet paid the bills, and have a few very big expenses coming up. It's harder too because thwap doesn't make much money in the summer.

If we were all in closer proximity, then there's the potential for bake sales, fund raising suppers, BnR Benevolent Fund (that'd be my area of expertise), car washes, etc...  :arr!:

Thanks, caller, for those good wishes for the future. We can use those too. :)

And we're back. Didn't you all enjoy that sixtieth rerun of the fortieth episode of As Time Goes By? I know that I did.

In just a little while, we'll be switching you over to the World Darts Invitational Championship in Llandudno, Wales, always a favourite with our viewers in Canada. Here at WBNR we think a lot about our viewers in Canada, especially since that's where our viewers mainly seem to be. Tell us what we can do for you, Canada.

*whisper* fern hill, could I have a word about this fabulous prizes number? */whisper*

PS: Pssst, pogge: you already have a black tote bag. You sure we couldn't interest you in a cap-sleeve T-shirt?

In the meantime, I'd like to show you some more of our fabulous thank-you gifts.

Many of you will remember that rivetting series on 'How Not to Drift, or Staying Right on TOP of the TOPic' we ran last month. That's one of the greatest things about WBNR: our programming that supports and enhances your own quest for personal growth. At the twenty-dollar level, you'll receive a video or DVD of the entire series 'How Not to Drift' -- 6 hours in total -- as our thank you gift.

Now, I think we're ready for the darts. From Wales!
