Hi Debra,

Thanks again for all you have done to create this community. I have been quite busy so I haven't had a chance to take a leisurely stroll through our forums.

I would love a small less robust place to catch up and chat in. A read only archive would also be nice.

I definitely would help chip in $$ to help keep something going.

P.S.: Hi Sharon, lagatta and Antonia

Hi Antonia and lagatta! I'm on LinkedIn but I don't find it very sociable. I much prefer Facebook for that (Beijing York).

I haven't had a chance to read some of the funnier and/or more memorable threads in these vaults. I hope to do so - some were pretty stellar.

:crying Everything Toe said and then some. I will probably try to make time to save a few of my favourite conversations and many touching tributes to lost friends over the years - so many threads scattered throughout these boards that the I don't even know where to begin.

Thank you, Debra for starting and maintaining this community for so many years. So many lessons learned and friendships made - something that none of the other boards could ever rival.

Just a quick note to say our alumni and Queenie's adoptive parent is the proud parent of a baby girl, Rose Alice.

CONGRATS MATTT (with 3 Ts)! :champagne

Toe pointed this out almost a month ago as an excellent way to pay honour to our dear departed friends. Alison has now posted another appeal:

That's a very nice tribute, Mandos.

Someone at Ian Welsh's site mentioned that the news should be shared with the regulars at Firedoglake/FDL. I believe skdadl was a regular over there for awhile.

It's been years since I stopped there (circa 2002/3). It really has grown.

A few blog posts are up about skdadl and pogge; Cathie's post has a brief comment from 900ft - I think someone was asking about her a while ago:

I saw the comment, Holly. I had been asking after her and I left a message on her last post at Of Gods and Monsters (her blog site).

Susan/skdadl took to twitter so swiftly and with so much passion that I was surprised she abandoned it along with all other internet activity when she moved. I always hoped it was a temporary reprieve - a chance to settle into her new home. The fact that she let Robin/pogge change the setting on her Facebook page just last summer felt like her return might be a possibility - if not, why not kill the page.

Pogge's last two tweets were to promote the lovely Alison's blog posts on Creekside (something that he did regularly it would seem). Seems so odd to see those last posts so shortly before his death. He died peacefully in a hospital according to the brief obit notice. It's hard to tell whether he was ill for awhile or not. Still, that must have been such a blow to Susan.

I don't think so, sparqui, according to the memorial, she was born in 1945, so it would have been the not-so-big 69, non? And October, not September (I checked).

Please don't forget the much younger pencil-skirt.

I was so terribly sad not to have met Boom Boom; he was alway so far away, and I have good friends in the very neighbourhood of Qu├ębec City where his hospital is located. It was freezing cold, but one family of friends live only a few short blocks from the hospital. Unfortunately he was in quarantine almost immediately, so I couldn't go up, and he died not long afterwards. I was hoping to be able to work out of my friends' house and run errands for him, as he hated the hospital food. Though I suspect that was nausea, as that particular hospital was famed for having improved its food recently.

I jumped a year, still too young. And yes, there was pencil-skirt who died tragically in a bike accident. And before that Heph who was also not old.

Boom Boom raved about the food at first and seemed to have a crush on the nutritionist. I suspect you're right about the nausea, lagatta.

It's been a very hard day. I couldn't concentrate and only spent time looking at old blog and forum posts. Seeing the words of our departed friends (and those we haven't heard from in awhile - JJ and lance come to mind) just kept me mired in sadness.

We used to have a rollicking good time celebrating skdadl/Susan's birthday here (2 days ago would have been the BIG 70). I will join you in a dram of scotch, Toe, and raise a belated b-day toast to skdadl. And then another round to say we miss you to Pogge, Boom Boom and dear Croghan.

This news pains me so much. Our dear, dear skdadl has passed away. I am just processing the news now:

Damn, f*ck, shit and then some... that makes three dear souls that we've lost.

Speaking of missing bloggers, 900ft Jesus of Gods and Monsters hasn't posted since June 2013:

I can't load either and  :confused

Last post on the wayback machine is for July 1, 2014 (entry by Jared Milne).  I sure hope he's OK.

That's sad and unexpected. Again, I find dying in your 60s to be too young.
