Cause we're all in this together / Re: Come to our Farewell Party!
« Last post by Toedancer on January 30, 2015, 07:47:48 PM »
Friday the 13th, should be an auspicious day Debra. Will there be a cache?

I guess I knew this was coming & wondered when you would announce; it makes sense of course. You've been a wunnerful host and very understanding of our unspeakable grief. We got punched in the gut and it knocked the wind out of some of us, it did me, that's for sure. I have come to the board to re-live some of our funniest moments, when we were giddy and still ignorant enough we didn't know exactly where Canada was headed and fervently wished it was not like the U.S.  Now we're living it and it's not funny at all. My personal e-mail has not changed in 11 years and I can be PM'ed if anyone wants it. I don't use my real name on FB or the NDP sites, as I lost trust in being online post-'06.

I'm leaving Toronto end of February, and going further northeast where all my family resides. Daughter will stay in TO and my BF of 32 years will still be here; since I'm not changing docs or dentists I'll be coming down quite often. Hope to see you all on the 13th.  :popcorn

Cause we're all in this together / Come to our Farewell Party!

Bread & Roses began with a few people who felt uncomfortable or that their voices couldn't be heard on other boards. We grew to be a vibrant if sometimes contentious community.

Over the years many changes occurred including the loss of some of our Bread & Roses family members.

Most of our members were and continue to be strong voices in politics and social/community organizations I still see many of those members on various social media.

As social media has grown many boards, including this one have seen posting become a thing of the past.  I have made the difficult decision to close this board. This will take effect on February 13, 2015.

If you would like to leave your Twitter or Facebook handle for others to contact you or copy off any post/s  you can do so during this time.

Thank you to all who have participated over the years.  :grouphug

Happy Robbie Burns Day!

 :singlemalt :pipes

A Red, Red Rose

O my Luve's like a red, red rose
That's newly sprung in June:
O my Luve's like the melodie
That's sweetly play'd in tune!

As fair thou art, my bonnie lass,
So deep in love am I:
And I will love thee still, my dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry:

Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt with the sun;
I will luve thee still my dear,
When the sands of life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only Luve,
And fare thee weel a while!
And I will come again , my Luve,
Tho' it were ten thousand mile.

Life from a feminist view / Re: Young woman beated to death on Longueuil cycle path
« Last post by lagatta on October 29, 2014, 10:46:50 PM »
Yes, and it turns out she wasn't either cycling or jogging. She was just walking home after her shift, across the river in Montréal.

I'm familiar with that path as I've done it the other way when teaching ESL in Longueuil at the far end of it. Not very long, and lots of people - not at all a deserted area. I've cycled along it and also walked all the way - lots of people do. What is at issue is women's most elementary freedom to circulate, walking, cycling whatever, without the constant fear of being hit upon, humiliated, raped, robbed or even savagely murdered.
